Pit bulls

I'm feeling pretty good about my pit bull web page. But I still have to make some design and content decisions. Presently there are many sites on the web that address issues around violence to pit bulls (dog fighting, shelter discrimination, unfair state laws, etc.). These sites can be very sad--lots of photos of really mangled dogs. While this is effective with respect to raising awareness, I don't want to focus so much on the negative. Rather I'd like to discuss some of the wonderful things about pit bull ownership too!

I know that I can find lots of informative links to include on my website, but I hope I can come up with enough original content...I certainly have lots of photos of my Alibi. But just as people are not necessarily as obsessed with their friends' and coworkers' kids as they are with their own, not everyone will find Alibi quite as engaging as I do. Though anyone with sense and good taste is sure to! ;)

Yikes! I better get going on this...

Everyone seems to be settling into their ideas and moving on to considerations about color, design and organization...I am feeling a little behind. But I've read all the helpful comments on my posts so far--thank you!
I am thinking about doing something informative about Pit Bulls. My pit bull is my favorite thing in the world and I think that feeling passionate about my topic will help me to pull it together.
I am thinking that my site will be an instructive resource for pit bull ownerships, or those considering ownership, as well as an homage to my pit bull, Alibi and an excuse to post adorable pictures of her.
I hope I can come up with enough angles to make a site. There are lots of legal issues to consider--many cities are passing breed-specific legislation to ban pit bulls. Many home insurance companies and home associations do not allow "dangerous breeds." It is very difficult to find an apartment that a) accepts dogs and b) will accept pit bulls, even if they do accept dogs. Because I have moved so frequently, this has been a big issue. I have had to fly across the country several times with Alibi and it gets harder and harder. Very few airlines will now allow dogs in the cargo area. The ones that do specifically do not allow Pit bulls. Before boarding an airplane, you most show a certificate of health from the vet, that also specifies the breed. Every time I've flown with Alibi, I've had to have the vet write "mixed breed" or "staffordshire terrier" for the breed, instead of pit bull. They are always happy to do this. Anyone who meets Alibi falls in love with her because she is so obviously loving and wonderful.
Sorry I'm rambling. Any thoughts on this idea? Should I scrap it and go with something else, like craft projects?
Thanks for all your insight!

A couple of craft ideas

I've enjoyed reading all your blogs about your ideas. I'm thinking about what hobbies I have and am not coming up with too much. But I do enjoy crafty projects. Two things I've been into over the last couple of years (though not really recently, unfortunately) are making decorative magnets and also making "mini books"--little 8-page booklets made from I folded piece of paper. I have this personal project going with the mini books--I make some of them using personal journal writings inside and include pictures. The books are so small, smaller than the palm of your hand, they can only fit a few pages of writing. I used to write short stories, so I've made a couple of mini books from those too...But I don't know if I can do a whole site on those. The magnets are fun, but I'm not sure there's enough there to do a whole site either. Will keep thinking about it...

More on other blogs...

So I've been thinking about blogs. Ever since I started working in offices, following my graduation from college in 2002 (prior to that, most of my jobs involved fast food), I've compiled a list in my head of blogs that I routinely check for laughs when i'm bored at work. Unfortunately the sites that I like aren't really going to help me because they're mostly funny blogs and while I think I'm gifted in several different ways, writing funny blogs is not one of them. Which is why I get such a kick out of people who are funny's blogs.

One major favorite, which has me laughing out loud is "Go Fug Yourself" http://gofugyourself.celebuzz.com/ which is basically two hilarious girls in los angeles writing really snarky things about celebrities based on their outfits and stuff. They have grown really popular over the years and apparently, as of the last month or so, they have started accepting huge advertisements all around their content. I think that is so ugly, and really ruins the look of a fun site. But I guess that's how the bloggers get paid.

Another totally random one is called "Dooce" http://dooce.com/ which is some lady's funny posts about things in her life. She's pretty old school as far as blogs go and I've been looking at her site over the past six plus years. During that time she has gotten married, moved from los angeles to utah, had a baby, etc. Anyway, she's one of those "professional" bloggers who developed such a following of readers that doing her blog now supports her whole family and is all she does. Again, she sells ads on her site now.

"Overheard in New York" totally cracks me up. The basic premise is that people send in snippets of conversations they've, uh, overheard in new york....http://www.overheardinnewyork.com/ Warning: though it doesn't show naughty pictures, much of the content is NSFW and is a bit risque.

So far, in terms of what I am going to do for my blog, I'm thinking either something about how much I love my pitt bull, Alibi, or maybe how to move to a different state six times in a year and a half, which is something I recently did...But I'm going to think more about this.

No Offense

I tried to add the groovy blog list that Linda shared with us--but my site is not behaving. It only saved a few of your blogs. I'll check back to fix it so that I can have a complete Blog roll.

Some research on Webpage project

I just checked out the web pages created by previous classes. Was good to get a sense of other peoples' ideas, layouts, designs, etc. A few of my favorites are Marylye's:
http://www.pages.drexel.edu/~mm934/652/ ; Holly Zerbe's : http://www.pages.drexel.edu/~hlz23/652/ ; and Lisa Jung's (Can't find her specific address for her site--from a couple classes back).
I'll try to think of some other websites that I especially like for their design. Generally I prefer sites that a "clean," simple and not too cluttered. I like Google because of its spare design and dislike Yahoo because it's so cluttered.

July 8, 2008

This is my blog about my final website project. I'm not sure what topic to choose yet as it has to be all original content, based on something on which I have some expertise. Like hobbies, or something. I don't know...I have random hobbies and interests, but not sure I'm so involved in anything to make an interesting site. I'm sure I'll think of something! What a boring blog! Sorry
